SEGRO has welcomed Bunzl plc, the FTSE-100 specialist international distribution and services group, as the first customer at its 70-acre SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway industrial and warehouse development.
The 230,000 sq ft warehouse facility is the first to be built at the site, which has outline planning consent to deliver a total of up to 1.2 million sq ft of industrial and warehouse space with buildings ranging from 50,000 – 750,000 sq ft on a flexible freehold/leasehold basis.
The Bunzl Retail Division is establishing a new operation at SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway in order to continue to consolidate its warehouse footprint and improve the quality of its operations.
The new warehouse will provide a workplace for around 100 people when it opens and will also feature an innovation centre enabling Bunzl to showcase its products and services to customers.
Developed to the highest specification, featuring up to 18-metre high eaves and 10 Megawatts of power available on the site, SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway incorporates first-rate sustainability credentials, including carbon neutral build options, rainwater harvesting, solar thermal heating, a minimum BREEAM `Very Good’ rating.
Andrew Pilsworth, SEGRO’s Business Unit Director, National Logistics, said:
“We understand the importance for our customers of having high-quality, sustainable, well-located and flexible industrial and warehouse space. SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway meets these needs perfectly and we’re pleased that the new facility will help Bunzl deliver its growth strategy, as well as new employment opportunities.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is changing the way that companies operate both now and in the future. The fact that SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway already has planning permission, utilities, supporting infrastructure and plots ready to build means a new warehouse can be constructed within six months. This could make a huge difference for those looking to adapt quickly to new market conditions.”
Helen Cockerham, Bunzl Retail’s Divisional Managing Director, said:
“Finding the right location for our new warehouse and distribution hub was a critical part of our growth strategy. The location and connectivity, the infrastructure which is already in place, and the speed at which our new facility can be delivered, made SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway a great choice.”
Located at Junction 10 the A14 at Kettering in the heart of the Midlands’ Golden Triangle, SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway offers easy access to the major motorways, ports, railways and airports, enabling deliveries to reach over 90% of the UK population within four hours.
